Jaguar XJ Series Overview

The XJ delivers an excellently refined ride. The engines are surprisingly quiet and wind and road noise is kept to a minimum even at high speeds. Responsive steering and precision handling make for an easy, enjoyable drive.

The interior of the Jaguar XJ is just as attractive and impressive as the exterior. The spacious cabin offers a great deal of legroom throughout, emulated by a boot with space for plenty of luggage. Headroom, however, is a little tight in the rear of the car.

A touchscreen control panel, dual-zone climate control and leather seats all come as standard with the XJ. Luxury options to upgrade with include a multimedia package featuring two 8-inch screens.

Background

The Jaguar XJ was first produced in 1968. The stylish 4-door saloon boasted an impressive array of equipment and was available with a huge 5.3 litre V12 engine from 1972. It had a top speed of around 140mph.

The second generation model was produced between 1973 and 1979. The car sported a revised exterior build and was more favourably equipped inside the cabin.

The Jaguar XJ entered its third generation in 1979. It was available with the same engines as its predecessor but was more attractively designed.

The car received many more updates over the years, with the release of the XJ40, X300, X308, X350 and X358. The current model – the X351 – has been in production since 2009. It boasts quick acceleration and many technological innovations inside the cabin.

Summary

The luxury Jaguar XJ delivers an excellent quality of ride and is an enjoyable car to drive. Coming as standard with an excellent amount of equipment, the XJ could make a decent family car – although it won’t be in everyone’s price range.
