The Infinit G 37 Convertible is Nissan's attempt at stealing sales away from the BMW 3 Series. It was designed for the American market and it shows. Not half bad, but not nearly good enough.
Infiniti G Overview
The G37 delivers an accomplished ride in all forms, whether it’s through the city or cruising along the motorway at high speeds. Steering is responsive and handling is sharp, making for a smooth, easy driving experience. The ride quality can be a little firm over bumpy surfaces however, as the car’s suspension does not absorb road imperfections very well.
Refinement is generally pretty good. The engine does make a fair bit of noise when revved, but that’s all part of the fun of driving the G37. Wind and road noise is reasonably quiet, even at high speeds.
The Infiniti G37 saloon offers a decent amount of space in both the front and rear seats. Legroom is not as generous in the rear of the coupe or convertible, and these seats would not be suitable for long journeys for adults. Controls are well laid out and easy to use, with some duplicated on the steering wheel for driver convenience.
The G37 comes with a high level of standard equipment, including cruise control and parking sensors.
Background
The Infiniti G was first produced in 1991. The model was a 4-door saloon which featured a 2 litre engine and a choice of either a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission. The model was refreshed in 1993, and production of the first generation ceased in 1996.
The G was produced in its second generation beginning in 1999. The car featured a higher level of equipment than its predecessor and was refreshed in 2000 with a new engine and transmission.
The third generation of the car was available as a 2-door coupe as well as a 4-door saloon. It was produced between 2003 and 2006 and came with a 5-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission.
The Infiniti G has been in production in its fourth generation since 2007. The car is now available as a convertible, in addition to the already available coupe and saloon models.
Over the course of its lifetime, the Infiniti G has been recognised for a number of awards.
Summary
The Infiniti G is classy executive and delivers a smooth, exciting drive. The versatile model could make a good family car in saloon form, while the coupe and convertible variants offer speed and style in abundance.
