PROS: Good looking with an impressive diesel engine
CONS: Running costs are high, the ride is a little uncomposed and the driving experience is a little underwhelming
The EX 30d's 3.0-litre diesel engine churns out 235bhp and an impressive 405lb-ft of torque. This means 0-62mph takes 7.9 seconds and flat out you'll be doing 137mph. These figures are very impressive for a large car such as this and the sheer amount of torque has to be experienced to be believed.
The steering is sharp and direct and the EX handles with a minimum of fuss but the ride is a little choppy on uneven road surfaces.
The EX is a very good looking car and is likely to appeal to the style-conscious motorist. It's the same story on the inside too and the interior feels classy and stylish. The quality of the materials is also exemplary.
You get a good amount of standard kit too with alloy wheels, climate control, electric windows, rear parking sensors, cruise control, Bluetooth, CD player and MP3 connectivity. It is a pity that Infiniti did not see fit to include sat-nav as standard - you'll have to fork out £1780 for the privilege.
Practicality is not the EX's strong point, as when the rear seats are upright there is just 340 litres of boot space. Space in the rear is also at a premium and the rear seats are only really suitable for children or shorter adults.
Infiniti have a good reputation for reliability and a 3 year/60,000 mile warranty is included as standard which should put buyers' minds at rest.
The EX should also be safe and comes with a number of airbags and drive aids fitted as standard.
At £37,130, the EX 30d is not cheap but it is relatively reasonably priced considering the competition.
The running costs are much lower than they are in the petrol version but still not hugely impressive. Infiniti claim that you'll average 33.2mpg, which sounds a little optimistic to us, and CO2 emissions of 224g/km mean that the EX falls under a relatively high tax band, K. Group 46 insurance will also be on the expensive side.
The EX 30d is without a doubt the pick of the EX range and offers much lower running costs than its V6 petrol brethren. However, it's still not cheap to run and will not work well as a family car t...
The Infiniti EX is aiming at the premium 4x4 market, and with the pricing structure they have adopted they are definitely aiming at the top end of that market. The EX is a good car and the luxurie...
