CarSite Verdict:  3.5/5
The Jazz 1.4 ES is a very good small car and offers excellent value for money thanks to a decent level of standard kit and Honda's famous build quality. It's not the most exciting car in the world but it's one of the best small cars on the road.

PROS:  Fuel efficient, well built, cavernous interior

CONS:  A bit dull, not that great to drive

Behind the Wheel

The Jazz's 1.4-litre engine develops 98bhp and 94 lb-ft of torque which is enough to propel the car from 0-62mph in 11.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 113mph. This is fairly decent for a small car like this.

The engine feels a little bit laboured on the open road. The ride is fairly composed and the cabin is quiet and the steering is nice and precise. It's no fun to drive though.

Looks & Equipment

The Jazz comes equipped with alloy wheels as standard and metallic paint can be specified for an additional £440.

The Jazz is a good looking car if you can get past its geriatric image and it comes with a good level of standard kit. Alloy wheels, climate control, electric mirrors, electric front windows, and a CD player with MP3 connectivity all come as standard.

Sat-nav and Bluetooth are unavailable on this model as is cruise control.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The Jazz should be a very reliable car as Honda have an excellent reputation for reliability. Honda also offer a very good 3 year/90,000 mile warranty to cover you in case anything does go wrong.

The Jazz should be a very safe car and comes fitted with driver, passenger and side airbags as standard.

The Jazz offers a good amount of interior space and provides 399 litres of boot space when the rear seats are upright, and 883 litres when the rear seats are down.

Value for Money

At £13,495, the Jazz is relatively well priced considering the quality of the car. The fuel economy is very good at 51.4mpg and low CO2 emissions of 126g/km mean that the Jazz falls under the relatively low VED band D. Group 16 insurance should also be very affordable.
