The performance credentials are strong and the 'Vette delivers high levels of power and impressive acceleration. The C6 also looks fantastic and is very reasonably priced considering the amount of car you get for your money. However, you will need to be blessed in the wallet department in order to keep it on the road.

PROS:  The C6 6.2 V8 Coupe Auto offers blistering performance and breathtaking looks and is surprisingly good to drive for an American muscle car.

CONS:  The running costs are astronomical and the quality of the interior may be a shock to drivers used to European cars.

Behind the Wheel

Unlike previous Corvettes, the C6 6.2 V8 Coupe Auto handles corners with ease and the steering is sharp and responsive. The grip through the corners is absolutely astonishing and the ride is surprisinly composed too.

This automatic transmission model manages an impressive top speed of 186 mph and gets from 0-62 mph in 4.4 seconds thanks to the 436 bhp developed by its 6.2-litre V8.

Looks & Equipment

The C6 is undoubtedly striking, with the classic and simple design appealing to a wide audience. The internal instruments are well organised and the dashboard is uncluttered and easy to navigate. The interior feels a little flimy but it seems well put together.

Standard kit includes central locking, power steering, stability control, alloy wheels, climate control, electric door mirrors, electronic front windows and cruise control.

For comfort and entertainment, leather seats and a CD compatible stereo system are fitted as standard but sat nav will cost you £4291. Ouch.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The cabin is capacious and comfortable. All round visibility is surprisingly good and there is enough luggage space for a few weekend bags.

Safety-wise, you get a range of airbags and stability and traction control help the rear wheels deal with the mountain of torque. An alarm and immobiliser are standard features and should deter thieves.

The 'Vette is offered with a three year warranty for 60,000 miles, giving owners greater confidence in the vehicle. Service intervals of 10,000 miles mean maintenance costs may be steep, but this is unlikely to be a deterrent for supercar owners.

Value for Money

The C6 6.2 V8 Coupe Auto is expensive at £51,690 but it represents good value when you consider the amount of car you're getting for the price.

You'll struggle to match Chevrolet's combined fuel consumption figure of 21.1mpg. On top of this, carbon emissions of 317 g/km place the car in the highest road tax band (M) and mean running costs will be extortionate.

However, if you're considering a C6, it is unlikely that the price of road tax is high on your list of priorities when considering a new car, and if you've got £51,690 and are looking for a fast two-seater, you won't find a better car than the C6 for the price.
