PROS: The Cadillac CTS-V 6.2-litre V8 Automatic is a comfortable, fast, well-appointed, large executive 4-door saloon. But its unique selling point over its rivals can be summed up in one word: power.
CONS: The interior trim does not meet the same standards of the rest of the car. Also, the Cadillac CTS-V 6.2-litre V8 Automatic 4-door saloon has so far only been available in the UK as a left-hand drive.
The Cadillac CTS-V 4-door saloon is an incredibly powerful four-door saloon, coming as it does with a supercharged 6.2-litre V8 engine. With 564 bhp at 6100rpm it is more powerful than both the BMW M5 and the Jaguar XFR, and produces more torque at 542 lb-ft at 3800rpm. This means that, despite its considerable weight, this leviathan can go from 0-62mph in just 4 seconds. Its top speed is higher too, at 175mph. The 6-speed automatic gearbox is not at its best in manual mode, when it can suffer delayed reactions, but in automatic mode it does cope well with the V8’s considerable power.
The ride is firm without being uncomfortable, and despite its size and weight, steering is adequate. It has sound body control when cornering and highly effective braking. The Cadillac CTS-V 6.2-litre V8 Automatic 4-door saloon has not, as yet, been made available in the UK in right-hand drive form.
The Cadillac CTS-V 6.2-litre V8 Automatic 4-door saloon’s styling is unmistakably American. It is a large executive 4-door saloon, but projects the image of a muscle car with its sharp, angular features. Its wide front grille proudly displays the Cadillac crest, and its tall narrow headlights help to produce a high-sided, brawny physique which continues along the rest of the car.
As you would expect from a car in its class, the Cadillac CTS-V 6.2-litre V8 Automatic 4-door saloon has a long list of standard equipment, including stability control, climate control, electric door mirrors and front windows, cruise control, rear parking sensors, leather seats, driver airbag, passenger airbag, front side airbags, alarm and immobiliser, MP3 connectivity, and satnav.
The cabin is comfortable for both driver and passengers, the leather seats affording a roomy, relaxing environment for long journeys. The interior trim is slightly disappointing for a car of the Cadillac CTS-V 6.2-litre V8 Automatic 4-door saloon’s class and price range. The build quality and layout of the dash feels inferior to European competitors such as the Jaguar XFR and BMW M5, and not up to the standard of the rest of the car. Again, the lack of a right-hand drive model is a disadvantage.
The Cadillac CTS-V 6.2-litre V8 Automatic 4-door saloon is fitted as standard with stability control and driver, passenger, and front side airbags.
Its emissions rating of 336g/km does put it in a higher Road Tax Band than the BMW M5. The M5 is in Road Tax Band L, whereas the Cadillac CTS-V 6.2-litre V8 Automatic 4-door saloon Road Tax Band M with the Jaguar XFR.
The Cadillac CTS-V 6.2-litre V8 Automatic 4-door saloon has a smaller boot space the M5 and the XFR. With the seats up it has a boot capacity of 385 litres, while the M5 and XFR both boast over 500 litres of boot capacity.
The Jaguar XFR and BMW M5 both have 3-year, unlimited mile warranties, whereas the Cadillac CTS-V 6.2-litre V8 Automatic 4-door saloon’s 3-year warranty is limited to 60,000 miles.
At £72,381 the Cadillac CTS-V 6.2-litre V8 Automatic 4-door saloon sits between the cheaper Jaguar XFR and the more expensive BMW M5 in terms of purchase price.
A 6.2-litre V8 is never going to top the fuel economy charts, and the Cadillac CTS-V 6.2-litre V8 Automatic 4-door saloon has combined figures of 19.6mpg. This is similar to the combined 22.5mpg returned by the V8-powered Jaguar XFR, but it is considerably less than the combined 28.5mpg you will get from the V8 found in the BMW M5.

For such an expensive car, the Cadillac CTS-V Saloon 6.2 V8 is relatively unsophisticated. The car's brute power is undeniable, but at over £72k there are far better cars out there.
