For such an expensive car, the Cadillac CTS-V Saloon 6.2 V8 is relatively unsophisticated. The car's brute power is undeniable, but at over £72k there are far better cars out there.

PROS:  Let's not beat about the bush, the Cadillac CTS-V Saloon 6.2 V8 is a fast car - one of the fastest saloon cars ever to lap the Nurburgring Nordschleife. There is no doubt that it is a high-performance car with a very powerful engine.

CONS:  It is only available in left-hand-drive and is an expensive prospect, with a high list price and high running costs.

Behind the Wheel

Performance is exceptional with the Cadillac CTS-V Saloon 6.2 V8 reaching 62 mph in 4 seconds and a top speed of 190mph. The Caddy's V8 produces 564 bhp at 6100 rpm and a torque reading of 564 lb-ft at 6100 rpm. With this sort of power, the CTS-V gives the Jaguar XJ-R or the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG and even the BMW M6, a run for their money.

For a car of its size the CTV-S grips well. The steering is light and precise but it is slow to respond thus compromising the car’s agility. The suspension is firm and the car hops, waggles and jiggles but the ride is comfortable enough. Refinement is reasonable but rear visibility is limited.

Looks & Equipment

The new edition of the CTS-V8 features a larger engine than its predecessor, uprated from 6.0-litres to 6.2-litres. The new version is fitted with the same engine found in the Corvette ZR 1 which is the most powerful engine ever produced by GM in its more than 100 years of existence.

Considering the car's list price, it is no surprise that the CTS-V Saloon 6.2 V8 is loaded with equipment. Standard equipment includes cruise control, front and rear electric windows, climate control, MP3/iPod connection and CD player, alloy wheels, sat nav and rear parking sensors - which are a great help because of the small rear windows. There are only two options and they are automatic transmission and metallic paint.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The CTS-V Saloon 6.2 V8 has not undergone an official Euro NCAP Occupant Protection rating crash test.

The CTS-V is a 5-seater. For a large executive car, its boot space is adequate at 385 litres and there is no chance to increase the capacity as the seats are not foldable. Since the CTS-V is rear-driven, the large transmission tunnel could cause the center rear seat passenger discomfort. There are only very few Cadillac dealers in the whole of UK and finding a dealer is problematic. Finding a servicing centre could be doubly daunting.

Inclusive safety kit is on a par with its rivals. Front, side and curtain airbags are included as standard. The car is fitted with a stability control system and an electronic brakeforce distribution system. The car is also safe from thieves because of the automatically locking doors, complemented by an alarm and immobilizer.

Value for Money

Priced at £72,381, the CTS-V undercuts its rivals from Jaguar and BMW on price. However not only are the Beemer and Jag vastly superior cars, they will depreciate far more slowly than the Cadillac.

This car has a very high CO2 emission rating of 365g/km, and combined fuel economy is a measly 18.1mpg. These are indications that the CTS-V is not cost-efficient and eco-friendly. It falls under insurance group 50 and road tax band M.
