A great car which combines performance, acceleration and power, the only real downside to the Supersports is the high purchase price. However, this is likely to have little significance to Bentley fans with the 204 mph top speed and flawless handling offering more than enough to keep them happy.

PROS:  A super speedy car with Bentley’s luxury good looks this model offers great performance and attractive features which endear it to all drivers.

CONS:  Expensive to buy and run, especially as the super unleaded E85 fuel is hard to come by and the combined economy rating does not apply when driving the vehicle hard, the steering also lacks feel making it less comfortable than expected.

Behind the Wheel

Behind the wheel in the Supersports, there is undoubtedly a level of invincibility. It has an enormous engine, producing 620 bhp from the turbocharged W12 motor and can reach 0-62 mph in a mere 3.9 seconds.

Despite the huge power of the engine and the top speed of 204 mph, the Supersports has plenty of control and stability proving extremely capable on corners and winding roads. The four-wheel drive is powerful and stable, making the size and weight of the car immaterial when tackling bends in the road.

The Supersports is also equipped with four suspension settings ranging from Comfort to Sports and the most suitable setting for UK roads is in between these two extremes. This absorbs bumps and avoids the awkward handling of the Sports mode on back roads.

However, for a car of this calibre and price you might expect more from the steering wheel - which lacks feel and responsiveness. Still, the acceleration in the Supersports is impressive and the six-speed automatic gearbox powers the car along with ease, making driving a pleasure.

Looks & Equipment

As you would expect from any Bentley this is a beautiful and sleek specimen of a car and is one vehicle which is sure to turn heads. Chrome detailing, large front air intakes, slightly flared wheel-arches and alloy wheels give the exterior of the Supersports the powerful, luxury image which is synonymous with Bentley.

On the inside, leather and quilted Alcantara cover the seats and there is carbon fibre trim. Rear seats are optional with a storage shelf available as an alternative. In a slight oversight by the brand, the seat backs are a little uncomfortable over long periods.

As you would expect for a car which costs £170,100 the Supersports comes equipped with just about everything you could want - although it does not have the option of a sunroof.

The Supersports also features the biggest carbon-ceramic brake discs ever fitted to any production car with Bentley claiming they will last the life of the car. They also serve to remove 20kg of weight from the front axle and it is this device which allows the car to move at the speeds it does.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The Bentley’s Supersports can be run on super unleaded or E85 but as there are few E85 pumps available in the UK, super unleaded is the more practical option.

The Supersports is a car suited to motorway driving and B-road winding alike thanks to its massive acceleration and suburb handling. It also has excellent brakes which makes it safe and suitable for driving in congested traffic.

As with any Bentley or luxury car, safety is a strong priority. With front and side airbags as standard, a pre-fitted alarm and four-wheel drive with stability control to reduce accidents the Supersports is a safe option in which to take to the road.

Value for Money

The Supersports is an expensive car to buy and expensive to run too. The fuel economy of 17.3 mpg goes out of the window during hard acceleration and with carbon emissions of 388 g/km this model is placed firmly in the highest road tax bracket.

However, as with all Bentley’s, you pay for what you get and in this model that is superb manufacturing, luxury styling and the high quality service of the brand. This is therefore a car which is likely to appeal to a niche market, mainly those who can afford it, whilst being unsuitable and impractical for the average motorist.
