An ideal luxury car, it is difficult to find fault with the GTC once you have got over the large price tag. For most Bentley customers, the cost of sale and maintenance are unimportant and this model effortlessly merges high performance levels with power, speed and stability. There are some minor bumps in its handling but these are only experienced at low speed and the car offers all the usual Bentley perks: such as a luxurious interior, a striking look and faultless service.

PROS:  The GTC offers classic Bentley motoring, with incredible speed, power and slick good looks that ooze glamour and luxury. The drive is smooth and controlled, even for a solid well-built car, and with great acceleration while automatic gear changes are smooth.

CONS:  A costly car to buy, the model is also expensive to run with a combined fuel economy of just 17.1 mpg. Road tax falls into the highest band thanks to poor green credentials which see carbon emissions reach staggering levels.

Behind the Wheel

With its W12 6 litre engine, the GTC is an immensely powerful soft-top which manages to remain relatively quiet for the majority of the drive. That being said, a big exhaust emits roaring sounds when revved hard - satisfying speed demons and petrol heads.

Despite being fairly heavy at nearly two and a half tonnes (2,495 kg) the GTC will not disappoint in the speed stakes. Reaching 0-62mph in a speedy 4.6 seconds and with a top speed of 195 mph, it provides a drive worthy of the colossal engine.

The GTC is not as smooth as the Continental coupe however and there is a slightly rougher adaption to low-speed bumps. The car still offers a controlled drive and the soft top provides fantastic noise reduction.

Looks & Equipment

A luxurious interior comes as standard with a Bentley and the GTC is no exception. Leather and polished wood cover the interior where the dashboard is shaped to represent the wings of the Bentley badge and features a touch-screen infotainment system.

The front seats have lots of leg room and although the back seats are more cramped they still have sufficient space to sit two adults relatively comfortably.

The downside to having a convertible is that the visibility behind the driver is slightly impaired and the boot is more restricted on space. The GTC boasts a reasonable 260 litre capacity but this could be prove too small for some drivers.

As you might expect with a luxury vehicle, the in-car equipment is also extensive. There is a paddle-shift system for the automatic gearbox, satellite navigation, climate control, an advanced stereo system and cruise control all fitted as standard with additional items available at cost.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

Along with an alarm fitted as standard for security, the four-wheel drive with stability control and electronic brake-force distribution help reduce the likelihood of accidents for this vehicle. Twin front and side airbags are also standard features with a pop-up rollover protection system and four active head restraints to reduce whiplash also available.

The combination of speed and stability mean that the GTC is suitable to drive in congested traffic or on open roads and motorways. The only compromise on the practicality of this model is the restricted boot and rear seat space which is eaten into by the collapsible roof.

Value for Money

Resale value for the GTC is good because of a lack of rivals and high demand, making it a good investment. However, this has to weighted against the high running costs and hefty road tax and insurance costs which afflict the model.

At £149,350 the GTC is not cheap to buy but, as with most Bentleys, the clientele are usually concerned with the car itself rather than the price tag and the GTC is certainly not wasted money.

It is a luxury car that drives as well as it looks and provides all the assurances the Bentley brand is known for as well as the impeccable service that they grant all their customers. Whilst it is far from the most practical or efficient car it is sure to make an impact and for drivers looking at these cars that could be a deciding factor.
