If you are looking for a sports car that delivers performance and safety in a stylish black sheen, then the Aston Martin DBS V12 Carbon Edition Volante could be the car for you. With an exquisite exterior, a powerful engine, and beautiful interiors, this car carries Batman’s seal of approval.

PROS:  Fitted with a powerful V12 engine, the DBS Carbon Volante is a stylish and powerful machine in a comfortable package, giving buyers quality, reliability and high resale values.

CONS:  The car’s rear seats are cramped. Made for urban environments, it becomes slightly cumbersome on bumpy roads and suffers from heavy steering when at low speeds. The car has very poor fuel economy, requiring regular and expensive refills.

Behind the Wheel

The V12 engine gives the car a massive power boost of 510 bhp at 6500 rpm with torque figures at 420 lb-ft at 5750 rpm. The car has very poor mileage at 17.3 mpg, but with a top speed of 191 mph, going from 0-62 mph in 4.3 seconds and significant power surges from low revs, it delivers as a powerful sports car.

The steering is sometimes too heavy and shudders as you go from lock to lock. The DBS Volante runs smoothly on urban roads, but it becomes slightly unstable when on bumpy roads.

The front seats are fully adjustable and supportive. Forward visibility is good but the rear window is small which makes reversing difficult when the roof is down.

Looks & Equipment

The DBS Volante’s look is a gorgeous amalgamation of sporty and sophisticated, namely with the black finish of the Carbon edition. Its cabin is beautifully crafted with comfortable leather. The technology in the car includes climate control, alloy wheels, electric door mirrors, electric front windows, powered seat adjustment, satellite-navigation, cruise control, rear parking sensors, a stereo system, Bluetooth, a CD player system, and MP3 connectivity.

The car also comes with an alarm and immobiliser to deter theft.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

While the front seats have ample room for average sized adults, the rear seats are cramped and better used to accommodate luggage due to the small capacity boot.

The DBS Volante comes with an advanced safety kit. It has a range of electronic traction and braking aids, along with four airbags. In the case of a rollover, the front screen can withstand twice the car’s weight, and protection hoops pop up behind the rear head restraints. The car also has a security tracker system in case it’s stolen. The DBS Volante has a three year warranty with unlimited miles and enjoys Aston Martin’s outstanding quality and reliability record.

However, the car has poor green credentials with a EURO 4 emissions rating, and a heavy carbon footprint of 388 g/km.

Value for Money

The DBS Volante is priced at £196,581. It is a must have car and a worthy investment for those who want to enjoy a high end automobile with style, quality, performance and reliability. The car maintains its worth as the Aston Martin brand enjoys good dealer services and resale values.
