Aston Martin DBS Overview

The 6.0 litre V12 is the same engine taken from the DBR9 and DBRS9 racing cars, although it has been modified. It produces 510bhp, flies from 0-62mph in 4.3 seconds and continues accelerating all the way to 191mph. Although these figures are similar to the DB9, it is significantly quicker to 100mph.

The lighter carbon fibre body panelling and ceramic brakes help to reduce the overall weight of the car, making it more agile and responsive through corners and help to get the power down quicker, whilst the suspension isn’t as firm as other GT’s that make the ride spine jarring. Despite the gentle rumble of the V12 at cruising speeds, there is very little noise inside the cabin and the ability of the DBS to absorb the bumps make this an excellent car to cover long distances.

The interior is beautifully crafted, with a host of high tech equipment built in. There are only two seats, since the rear seats that were in the DB9 have been removed to make room for extra boot space. However, the boot still isn’t exactly cavernous.

Background

First manufactured in 2007 the DBS is now the flagship of the Aston Martin brand. It replaced the Vanquish S, and is more like a supercar version of the DB9. The DBS name has been used before, for the production of another Gran Tourer between 1967 and 1972. Both DBS’s have featured in James Bond films, with the recent iteration in both Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace.

The DBS is built on the same platform as the DB9, Ford’s aluminium VH platform, which may account in part for the similarities between the two.

Summary

The DBS is a performance supercar, which is capable of traveling long distances, due to its highly refined ride. The engine is superb, as is the handling, and the styling will turn heads as it passes by.
