The Peugeot 308 R, a sporty concept version of Peugeot's new family hatchback, will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.
Designed to rival the likes of the new Golf GTI and the Focus ST, the 308 R Concept comes with the same turbocharged 1.6-litre engine as the RCZ R, with 270bhp on tap. Peugeot has not released any performance figures for the 308 R; however, given that the same engine launches the RCZ R from 0-62mph in 5.9 seconds and on to a limited top speed of 155mph, we'd expect it to be fairly sprightly.
But despite the power, Peugeot claims that the 308 R will emit just 145g/km of CO2.
The power is sent to the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox and a Torsen differential, which should help the 308 R put all of its 243lb-ft of torque onto the road.
Peugeot has lowered the 308 R by 26mm and widened the front track by 30mm in an attempt to improve the car's handling. The 308 R comes with extended wheel arches which contain 19-inch alloy wheels. Peugeot has also made extensive use of carbon-fibre for the doors, front wings, bonnet, sills and bumpers, which not only makes the 308 R look more aggressive, but should also serve to make it significantly lighter than the standard car.
