Peugeot will unveil its most powerful production model ever, the new Peugeot RCZ-R, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend.
First revealed in concept form at last year's Paris Motor Show, the RCZ-R will be shown in production form for the first time at Goodwood and will go on sale in the UK early next year.
The RCZ-R is fitted with a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine which develops 270bhp -- 70bhp more than the current most powerful model in the RCZ range -- and 243lb-ft of torque. This means that the RCZ-R can shrug off the 0-62mph run in just 5.9 seconds and carry on accelerating right up to a limited top speed of 155mph.
These performance figures are helped by the fact that Peugeot has lopped 17kg off the RCZ's kerb weight thanks to the use of lighter components. With a mass of 1280kg, the RCZ-R has a power-to-weight-ratio of just under 211bhp per tonne.
But despite the RCZ-R's impressive performance credentials, Peugeot claims that the car will still return 44.8mpg on the combined cycle and emit just 145g/km of CO2.
Peugeot has lowered the RCZ-R by 10mm compared to the standard model as well as widening the track and adding new dampers. The 19-inch alloy wheels also hide bigger brakes with four-piston callipers.
A new fixed rear spoiler has also been added and a new exhaust system also comes as standard with a sound system which amplifies the noise made by the engine.
On the inside, the RCZ-R gets bucket seats with red-stitched leather, a new smaller steering wheel and a new short-shift aluminium gear knob taken from the 208 GTI.
The car will be available in a choice of four colours: Opal White, Mercury Grey, Nera Black and Moroccan Red.
