The new Mercedes S-Class Coupe, a two-door version of Merc's flagship limo, has been officially unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show.
Designed to replace the CL in the Mercedes range, the new S-Class Coupe looks broadly similar to the concept car which was revealed at last year's Frankfurt Motor Show, boasting a more aggressive, sporting exterior than the saloon. It's also lower and shorter than the saloon, while a new concave front grille, wider wheel arches and side skirts all add to the car's dramatic appearance.
The big news, however, is the car's innovative new tilt function. The technology, which comes as part of Mercedes' Magic Body Control system, uses the same camera to scan the road ahead and tilts the individual struts to keep the car flatter through bends, improving both ride and handling
There will undoubtedly be a number of engines on offer in time; however, Mercedes has announced only the S500 version of the car so far. The S500 gets a 4.7-litre twin-turbocharged petrol V8 which generates 449bhp and 516lb-ft of torque, which should be enough to give the car a 0-62mph time of around 5.0 seconds.
Inside, the Coupe is just as luxurious as the saloon and is similarly well equipped. There's a new three-spoke steering wheel and bespoke trim, and Mercedes has also fitted the new touchpad controller from the new C-Class. A head-up display and a panoramic glass sunroof, which can switch between transparent and opaque at the touch of a button, are also included.
There's no news yet on how much the S-Class Coupe will cost; however, we're expecting prices to start from around £100,000 when it goes on sale later this year.
