This is the new Lamborghini Huracan, which has made its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

The Huracan replaces the ten-year-old Gallardo model in the Lamborghini line-up. And given that the Gallardo is the most successful model in the company’s history, accounting for half of all the cars Lamborghini has ever made, it’s got a lot to live up to.

With a chassis made from a combination of carbon-fibre and aluminium, the Huracan weighs just 1,422kg dry, and with a new 5.2-litre V10 producing 610bhp, the Huracan has a power-to-weight ratio of just 2.33kg per hp.

As a result of this, 0-62mph takes just 3.2 seconds and 0-124mph just 9.9 seconds.

The power is sent to all four wheels through a new seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox called “Lamborghini Doppia Frizione” (LDF). The driver can also choose from one of three driving modes via Lamborghini’s ANIMA (Adaptive Network Intelligent Management) system, which controls the engine, transmission and all-wheel drive system settings to provide the best setup on either road or track. Carbon-fibre brakes are fitted as standard under the Huracan’s 20-inch wheels.

Lamborghini claims the Huracan’s exterior design is “an essential element” of the car – “unmistakable, hermetically sealed and completely free from ornamentation.” Quite what they mean by “hermetically sealed” we don’t know; however, what we do know is that the Huracan is a mean-looking machine.

Although clearly an evolution of the Gallardo, the Huracan is all-new, with perhaps its biggest styling change the new, flatter LED headlamps which adorn the car’s shark-like front end. The front air intakes also contribute to this aggressive look and feature a hexagonal design which is repeated across the Huracan’s bodywork.

Inside, the Hurcan gets a 12.3-inch TFT display which can be configured in a number of ways to provide the driver with all key information in a virtual format.

Although Lamborghini has yet to announce UK pricing details, the Huracan will cost 169,500 euros, excluding taxes, when it goes on sale on the continent. The first customer deliveries have been pencilled in for the spring.
