Although you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference, the car you see here is the new facelifted BMW X3, which goes on sale in June, costing from £31k.

The exterior changes for the BMW X3 are subtle and include a new headlight design, a more prominent BMW kidney grille and new front and rear bumpers, all of which bring the car's look more in line with the larger BMW X5. There are also new alloy wheel designs, optional LED headlights and a new 'xLine' trim, which gives the car a more rugged, off-road look.

The biggest changes, however, are under the bonnet, where the all-diesel line-up now boasts increased power and better fuel economy and before. A choice of six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic gearboxes is also on offer, depending on the engine.

At the bottom of the X3 range is the rear-wheel drive sDrive18d, which gets a 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine developing 148bhp and 266lb-ft of torque. When fitted with the manual gearbox, this model will return a combined 56.5mpg and emit 131g/km of CO2.

The rest of the X3 range comes with all-wheel drive as standard. The X3 xDrive20d produces 187bhp and 295lb-ft from its 2.0-litre engine, returning 52.3mpg and 143g/km of CO2.

Moving up the range, the X3 xDrive30d gets a 3.0-litre straight-six turbodiesel producing 254bhp and 413lb-ft of torque. Available with an automatic transmission only, the xDrive30d will return 47.9mpg and 156g/km.

The range-topper is the X3 xDrive35d, which uses the same engine as the xDrive30d tuned to produce 309bhp and 465lb-ft of torque, giving a 0-62mph time of 5.3 seconds and a top speed of 152mph. BMW claims it will return 47.1mpg and 157g/km.

Standard equipment across the X3 range includes leather heated seats, climate control, cruise control, DAB radio, 17-inch alloys, front and rear parking sensors and automatic lights and wipers. An automatic tailgate and BMW's latest infotainment system are also included.
