If you wish to invest in dependability, practicality and safety in this class, look no further than the Seat Alhambra SE Lux 2.0 TDI CR (170ps) DSG 5dr. The MPV is huge and this has both up and down sides - it has loads of space for passengers and luggage, but can be tricky to manoeuvre.

PROS:  A significant size increase in size when compared to other MPV’s on the market, the Alhambra is versitile and has a refined engine.

CONS:  An unexciting experience on the road and the size, although practical for passengers, can sometimes make the drivers job a difficult one.

Behind the Wheel

The drive is pretty much what you would expect of a larger MPV. The Seat Alhambra SE Lux 2.0 TDI CR (170ps) DSG 5dr is both safe and predicable at city speeds, but lacks high speed on the open road. The steering could be more responsive.

The 1968 cc engine and automatic transmission makes driving heavy loads relatively easy, without the need to constantly search for gears. The Alhambra has 259 lb-ft torque power at 1750 rpm and 168 bhp (170 ps) at 4200 rpm, a top speed of 127 mph and a 0-62 mph speed of 9.7 seconds.

Looks & Equipment

Seat Alhambra SE Lux 2.0 TDI CR (170ps) DSG 5dr doesn’t offer much more than any other MPV looks wise and is a little boxy in style. The clean lines do add a little more of an edge to this large MPV. The sliding doors require deep lines and are cut down the flanks for the runners.

The stereo is very basic and a little uninspiring and the sat nav is placed on an extremely small screen, which can be quite exasperating at times. On the plus side, it is very easy to use.

There is a rear power supply in the back of the car, which means passengers in the back can use a range of electronic gadgets.

The Seat Alhambra SE Lux 2.0 TDI CR (170ps) DSG 5dr comes fitted with power steering, stability control, climate control, electric front windows, electric door mirrors, cruise control, rear parking sensors and leather seats. Other features include sat nav and MP3 connectivity. Metallic paint is available as an optional extra.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The Seat Alhambra SE Lux comes fitted with a driver airbag, a passenger airbag and front side airbags as standard. It also comes with an immobiliser, central locking and an alarm as standard.

The Seat Alhambra SE Lux is extremely practical and allows plenty of space for passengers. The additional row of seats can be moved backwards and forwards, which means most legroom requirements are met with ease. There is also an ample amount of elbowroom in the cabin.
The boot has a capacity of 267 litres with the seats up and a huge 2297 litres of space with the seats down.

Value for Money

The Alhambra SE Lux is priced at £32,585. For the price, you get loads of space for passengers and for luggage. The engine is refined and economical, especially for the size of the MPV. The diesel engine promises a combined average of 47.9 mpg and has a CO2 emissions rate of 154 g/km, so running costs will be reasonable.

The SE Lux comes with loads of equipment, although it does bump up the price, so if you don't need all the extra gadgets a cheaper model will serve just as well.
