The Peugeot 107 Urban 5dr is a cheap, economical and good-looking city car. The 1.0-litre engine provides decent performance around town but on faster roads the 107 is slow, asthmatic and noisy.

PROS:  The 107's low weight and willing engine makes this a decent city car. Excellent fuel economy and low running costs should make the 107 1.0 Urban 5dr a cheap car to run as well.

CONS:  The 107 1.0 Urban 5dr loses marks for practicality due to its limited boot space and the unrefined engine is noisy at high speeds.

Behind the Wheel

The Peugeot 107's 1.0-litre engine develops 68bhp and propels the car from 0-62 mph in 14.2 seconds and on to a top speed of 100mph.

The car is small and nimble to drive around town, however the steering is dull and lifeless and fails to instil confidence in the driver on the open road. The engine is also relatively unrefined at higher speeds and this means noise within the cabin can be excessive. At speed, road, wind and engine noise combine to make the cabin a very noisy place to be.

Looks & Equipment

The driving position available in the 107 1.0 Urban 5dr won't suit everyone because the steering column only adjusts for rake and there is no height adjustment for the seat.

The 107 Urban model is fitted with four airbags, split-folding rear seats and a CD player with MP3 input socket as standard. It also comes with stability control, air-conditioning and central locking as additional features, improving on the specification offered by the cheaper Urban Lite model.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The small cabin of the 107 1.0 Urban 5dr offers enough room to fit four passengers but larger adults will struggle to get comfortable in this cramped city car. Both leg and headroom are limited, making long journeys uncomfortable for the larger passenger.

On top of this, the boot capacity is limited and only offers 139 litres of space when the seats are in place. Folding the rear seats down expands this to 751 litres but this is hardly spectacular, even for a small car.

There’s a lot of exposed metal and some of the interior plastics feel hard to the touch but the cabin feels solid and reliable. In fact, as the result of a collaboration between Toyota and Peugeot, reliability is unlikely to be an issue for the 107.

With four-star Euro NCAP rating the 107 is fairly safe and offers driver and passenger airbags as standard features. Unfortunately, this model lacks front side airbags which are a common feature on many other new vehicles and this affects the overall safety rating of the car.

Value for Money

Cheap to buy and run, the 107 benefits from a low purchase price of just £9,545. In terms of long term investments, the Peugeot 107 range is a fairly wise choice and resale values remain fairly strong.

Good fuel efficiency - 62.8mpg - and low running costs to allow the car to effectively pay for itself over a few years. Carbon emissions of just 103g/km put the model into road tax band B, one of the cheapest, and insurance premiums are also more than manageable falling under insurance group 3.
