PROS: The Chevrolet Aveo’s styling and design are highly distinctive and attractive. Though a compact car its interior is spacious enough for a comfortable ride. It is efficient and frugal to run and refined, even when on the motorway. It is well equipped yet very affordable.
CONS: The Aveo's general performance is lacklustre. It is light to drive but you really need to work the engine hard as its lacks torque and has no pull at low revs. The gearbox is quite clunky.
The Chevrolet Aveo 1.4 LT develops 100bhp and 96lb-ft of torque, getting it to 62 mph in 11.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 109 mph.
The Aveo 1.4 LT is a little short on pull at low engine revolutions. It is an easy and light drive and a good choice for town driving. The ride is reasonably smooth and comfortable but becomes unsettled on uneven roads. The Aveo's small size makes it very easy to manouevre.
The engine needs to be worked hard and this affects refinement. At high speeds the engine noise is noticeable but wind and road noise are kept to a minimum. Visibility is not a problem.
The Chevrolet Aveo’s interior is a vast improvement over previous small Chevrolets. The dashboard is well laid-out with the controls and instruments grouped in clusters for easy access. However, the interior does not really exude class and feels cheap and plasticky. Nevertheless, the interior of the Aveo is simple and uncluttered with the interior assemblies quite sturdy and solid.
Standard equipment for the Aveo 1.4 LT includes electric mirrors, electric windows, power steering and alloy wheels. A CD player and remote central locking are also fitted as standard, with metallic paint coasting an extra £375.
The Chevrolet Aveo has a perfect Euro NCAP Occupant Protection rating of 5, thanks to its use of impact-absorbing materials and structures. It is equipped with a comprehensive safety kit of passenger and driver airbags, electronic stability control, traction control, ABS, and a braking system that prevents body roll. Its five seats are all fitted with three-point seatbelts and pre-tenstioners and the Aveo features a unique impact-absorbing bumper system. The car has a collapsible pedal assembly that folds in case of an accident to reduce injury to the legs.
For a small family car, space is not a problem. It comfortably seats two adults and the boot has a capacity of 220 litres that extends to 980 litres when the seats are folded. A five year/100,000 mile warranty is also offered as standard.
Priced at only £11,565, the Aveo is certainly an affordable car.
This version falls under insurance group 16 and Road Tax Band F. Fuel economy is a decent 46.3mpg and the Aveo's CO2 rating is 143g/km. If all you need from a car is decent performance in town and cost is an issue, the Aveo is a solid choice.
