The CTS-V Sport Wagon 6.2 V8 boasts high levels of performance and is sure to impress. However, rivals such as the Mercedes Benz E-Class 63 AMG offer better resale values and could prove to be a wiser option.

PROS:  Exceptional acceleration, good handling.

CONS:  The purchase price is quite steep and running costs will be high.

Behind the Wheel

With a power output of 564bhp at 6100 rpm and torque figures of 550lb-ft at 3800 rpm, the performance levels of the CTS-V Sport Wagon are exceptionally high. Luckily, Cadillac have managed to contain the power of this sporty model well and the drive is smooth and comfortable for the passengers. The CTS-V Sport Wagon 6.2 V8 is surprisingly agile for its weight and this means handling is easy and fluid. The car is just as comfortable on straight roads as it is on bends.

With a top speed of 180mph the Cadillac offers performance which is virtually unmatched by other estate cars. The model manages 0-62 mph in a scarcely believable 4.0 seconds - faster than any Aston Martin.

Looks & Equipment

The appearance of the CTS-V Sport Wagon 6.2 V8 is strikingly bold although may not be to everyone’s tastes.

The interior is well designed and comfortable and there is a range of standard features fitted to make it an enjoyable car to drive. Central locking, power steering, stability control, climate control, electric door mirrors, electric front windows, cruise control, rear parking sensors, an advanced stereo with MP3 connectivity and sat nav are all provided to enhance driver and passenger comfort. Leather seats are also fitted as standard which is good to see. Externally, alloy wheels and metallic paint are included in the price.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The boot space is expansive with 412 litres offered with the seats up and 1,484 litres with the seats down. This is the same as the standard CTS Sport Wagon and allows this sporty model to remain functional as well as fun when on the road.

The CTS-V Sport Wagon comes with a three year warranty at 60,000 miles and a service interval of 10,000 miles is recommended to maintain its performance.

The stability control and cruise control fitted as standard help to prevent against accidents and keep drivers safe on the road but are just part of the extensive kit fitted on this model as standard. Other features include driver, passenger and front side airbags as well as an alarm and immobiliser to protect against theft.

Value for Money

Priced at £74,610 the Cadillac CTS-V Wagon Sport has an exceptionally high price when compared to the standard CTS Sport Wagon. The hefty price tag is combined with high running costs to make the Cadillac an expensive purchase all round. Combined fuel economy is less than 20mpg and with CO2 emissions of 260g/km, the CTS-V Sport Wagon 6.2 V8 is in the top tax band, M.

Deprecation values can be fairly high on Cadillacs and this means that they are not the best investment and other rival models could prove a wiser choice.

Perhaps the main competition to the CTS-V Wagon Sport is the Mercedes Benz E-Class 63 AMG. Costing £74,695 this is a little pricier than the Caddy but delivers great performance and will retain more of its value, come part-exchange time.

For such an expensive car, the Cadillac CTS-V Saloon 6.2 V8 is relatively unsophisticated. The car's brute power is undeniable, but at over £72k there are far better cars out there.
