Cadillac CTS Car Reviews

Cadillac’s CTS is a reasonably priced executive model with a high level of kit fitted as standard. It features a unique exterior design which could be considered bold, in a class where conservative design seems to be the norm. This is likely to give it an exclusive appeal, as the majority will stick to the less showy competitors.

Cadillac CTS-V Saloon 6.2 V8 4dr - February 2012
For such an expensive car, the Cadillac CTS-V Saloon 6.2 V8 is relatively unsophisticated. The car's brute power is undeniable, but at over £72k there are far better cars out there.

Cadillac CTS Overview

The CTS is available in 3 different body shapes, as a saloon, coupe or estate, with a sportier supercharged V model available for each, with a 6.4 litre V8 engine, as opposed to the V6 3.0 or 3.6 litre engines in the standard models. These large petrol engines offer poor efficiency, and the lack of a diesel model may lead you to look elsewhere if fuel economy is a primary concern.

The handling provides good control through corners although it isn’t the most agile car in the class. The stiffer suspension minimises body roll well, which should remove Cadillac’s reputation of producing large wallowing saloons.

The adjustable steering wheel and electric seats make it easy to find a comfortable driving position, however due to the extensive kit offered as standard the dash is covered in buttons, which can at times be confusing. The styling of the interior is pleasant with adjustable leather seats as standard. Space is plentiful in the front and acceptable in the rear, with only the tallest of passengers finding it tight. There’s enough room for 5 making it a good choice for a more upmarket family car.

Background

The CTS was first produced as a 2003 model, and was built on GM’s all new rear-wheel drive Sigma platform. It marked not only a return to rear-wheel drive vehicles for the brand, but was also the first Cadillac offered with a manual transmission since 1988.

The second generation went into production in 2007, and was first revealed at the North American International Auto Show in the same year. The new model was both wider and longer, and was offered with an additional 3.6 litre petrol engine. SportWagon (estate) and Coupe models of the CTS have become available as 2010 and 2011 models respectively.

Summary

The CTS offers an executive vehicle that is a step away from the norm. It is well priced in relation to its competitors and comes packed with high-tech kit as standard, whilst the CTS-V models provide a sportier level of performance.
