CarSite Verdict:  3/5
Unfortunately this car is a classic example of style over substance. The attractive body and good level of kit are impressive but do little to compensate for the poor handling. Whilst a price tag of under £45,000 might be tempting, the truth is that it offers a false economy and buyers would be better off investing their money in something capable of delivering on its promises.

PROS:  Breaking with a Cadillac tradition, the CTS Saloon 3.0 V6 saloon offers a tasteful and attractive interior that is more than sufficient to rival its competitors. The level of in-car tech is very good and the exterior is classy and attractive.

CONS:  The handling is poor and, despite its size, the engine fails to deliver the power which is expected. Running costs are high and the car fails to live up to its good looks.

Behind the Wheel

With a power output of 276bhp at 7000 rpm and torque figures of 222 lb-ft at 5700 rpm, performance is adequate. The CTS Saloon 3.0 V6 achieves a reasonable top speed of 140 mph and gets from 0-62 mph in 8.0 seconds flat which is fairly average for a car of this type.

Handling is poor and the steering is lifeless and unresponsive. However, the big Caddy is comfortable and irons out bumps on the road with ease.

Looks & Equipment

For once Cadillac offers a car which benefits from a stylish interior with the dashboard logically arranged and trimmed in leather. Standard in-car tech includes leather seats, an advanced stereo system with both CD and MP3 connectivity and a built-in Sat Nav system.

The exterior benefits from alloy wheels and metallic paint. Rear parking sensors, cruise control, climate control, electric door mirrors and electric windows improve comfort for both driver and passengers.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The CTS Saloon 3.0 V6 benefits from a three year warranty for 60,000 miles and a service is recommended every 10,000 miles, with dealer servicing likely to be pricey. Although there is plenty of space inside for passengers, the boot capacity is fairly mediocre at 385-litres.

In order to deter thieves the Cadillac comes with an alarm and immobiliser as standard features. Driver, passenger and front side airbags are provided to protect the car's occupants in the event of an accident.

Value for Money

Despite being priced at £43,570 the CTS Saloon 3.0 V6 is a model which is unlikely to offer a good investment to buyers. Running costs are high thanks to fuel economy of just 20.3mpg and CO2 emissions of 246g/km, which puts the Caddy in VED band L. Resale values are also expected to be poor.

Overall, this car fails to live up to its promising looks and disappoints in almost every respect. The performance is decent but lacks the thrill of rivals and whilst the interior is well designed and full of features, the handling is poor.

For such an expensive car, the Cadillac CTS-V Saloon 6.2 V8 is relatively unsophisticated. The car's brute power is undeniable, but at over £72k there are far better cars out there.
