Tax bands - where does the 2001 Rover 75 Saloon sit?
Car registered before March 2001 are taxed on their engine size. those with engines of 1549cc or below are charged at one rate (currently £130 a year), and those with engines larger than 1549cc are charged £215 a year.
Cars registered after 1 March 2001
Car tax rates for cars registered after February 2001 are split into 13 bands, each designated a letter A-M. You pay according to your CO2 emissions. See the road tax chart below for a breakdown on the bands and rates.
CO2 Over 225g/km and registered before 23 March 2006
Cars registered before 23 March 2006 with a CO2 emissions level of over 225g/km are not placed in the L or M bands, but into band K. So if your car was registered before that date and has CO2 emissions of over 200 g/km - you know it will fall into tax band K.
New Cars Road Tax
Since April 2010, new cars have been subject to a different rate for the first year of road tax, after which the rate goes back to the standard rate. See the chart at the bottom of the page for more details.
Road Tax Price Increases - From 1 April 2012
The 2012 budget saw the price of road tax increase in line with RPI (the Retail Price Index), and our chart shows these new prices.
These prices came into force on 1 April 2012 and will be in place for 2012/13, after which they will be reviewed and probably subject to a further increase in 2014.
For those in Tax Band A, there has been no change, and the tax remains at a zero rate.
