Skoda is a Czech car manufacturer which was founded in 1895. Before the fall of communism, Skoda was regarded as an automotive joke; however, Volkswagen acquired the firm in 1991 (the deal was finalised in 2000) and since then Skoda has carved out a niche as one of the world's top mainstream car manufacturers. Skodas are excellent used buys thanks to their superb reputation for reliability and low prices.
The smallest model in the Skoda range is the Citigo, a city car which shares much of its underpinning with the VW up! and the SEAT Mii. Launched in 2011, the Citigo is a popular second-hand choice thanks to its low prices, ease of ownership, reliability and low running costs.
The Skoda Fabia is one of the more popular models in the Skoda range, and because of this there are plenty of good used examples to choose from. Launched in 1999 to replace the Skoda Felicia, the Fabia won many fans thanks to its good looks, excellent build quality and cheapness. It was replaced with a new model in 2007 and remains one of the best used superminis on the second-hand market.
The Skoda Octavia is Skoda's longest-lived model, having been in continuous production since 1996. The Skoda Roomster is a small MPV which has been in production since 2006. It's a popular used buy thanks to its spacious interior, good build quality and efficient engines.
The Skoda Yeti is a small crossover 4x4. Launched in 2009, the Yeti immediately won plaudits from critics due to its innovative design, excellent specification, strong VW Group engines and practicality. It's an excellent second-hand buy.
