The global debuts continue at the New York International Auto Show with Porsche’s latest offering.
The new Boxster Spyder is a purist sports car which retains many of the features which made the previous Spyder such a popular model; the convertible roof is made of fabric and is opened and closed manually while the only transmission available is also manual.
The new arrival will be capable of accelerating from 0-62mph in just 4.5 seconds and will reach a top speed of 180mph. Power will be provided by a 3.8 litre flat six cylinder engine which gives an output of 375bhp. New firmer sports suspension will bring a ride height lowered by 20mm and powerful brakes will be adopted from the Porsche 911 Carrera.
Sports bucket seats make up part of an interior which aims to provide pleasure and comfort; a steering wheel with a diameter of 360mm helps the roadster to apply accurate and agile steering to the road surface. However, the German manufacturer is clear that luxuries like air conditioning and a radio cannot be included as standard in such a weight conscious design but will be available if desired.
