Volkswagen’s Golf R hot hatch just got even hotter with the introduction of a new Performance Pack.

For an extra £2,300, the factory-fitted pack is available on DSG-equipped Golf R models, and adds the ‘R-Performance’ brake system, a derestricted top speed, 19-inch ‘Spielberg’ alloy wheels, and – on hatchback version - a downforce-enhancing rear roof spoiler.

R-Performance brakes include silver-painted callipers, a 2kg weight saving, and ‘built pin’ brake discs whose aluminium brake pot has a cast steel friction ring that’s joined via cast pins for added durability under performance conditions.

When the restrictions are removed, the Golf R’s 306bhp 2.0-litre TSI engine pulls the hatchback to a top speed of 166mph and the Estate to 168mph.

Alongside the Performance Pack announcement, Volkswagen have also added a bespoke sports exhaust package for all Golf R hatchback models. The low density, high strength titanium exhaust system is constructed by Slovenian exhaust specialist Akrapovic, and can be added to the Golf R for £2,975. Round tailpipes replace oval, and added valve control technology results in an enhanced exhaust sound.

Priced from £32,710 on-the-road, or £33,995 on-the-road for DSG models, the latest Golf R is a popular player in the UK hot hatch market. The Golf R Estate is priced, in standard form, from £35,700 on-the-road.
