UK car buyers have already taken the new Volvo XC40 premium compact SUV to their hearts with over 3,000 sold since the model was launched just over a month ago.

As a result the XC40 is now the most successful new model ever launched by Volvo in the UK. The UK launch in late February saw all 1,000 special First Edition XC40 sell out even before the car had arrived in dealer showrooms.

Volvo’s first ever compact SUV was designed to rival similar models from Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Range Rover, and has already collected the European Car of the Year and What Car? Car of the Year awards.

Commenting on the sales performance, David Baddeley, Volvo Car UK's Operations Director, said: "The XC40 is already proving to be a huge success, fuelled by the number of high-profile awards it has won recently. This enthusiasm is reflected in the number of early customers who have ordered their XC40, and we see this demand only increasing now the first customer cars are appearing on UK roads."
