Volvo’s Polestar performance brand has reached its 100,000th model milestone.
The achievement comes at a time when Polestar models are at the height of their popularity, with over 12,000 new Volvo’s optimised by their performance division in the first five months of this year. That represents growth of more almost a third compared to 2016, with high demand for the Polestar tuned Volvo Drive-E engines a key factor, and with the all-new XC60 set to join the Polestar stable next month that demand is expected to rise further.
The current Volvo XC60 is Polestar’s most popular model, followed closely by the XC90 and V60 models. China, the domestic Swedish market, and the United States are the largest volume customers for Polestar models.
Polestar optimisation takes five forms – engine performance, throttle response, gearshift speed, gear hold functionality, and off-throttle response – which are applied to turn standard Volvo road cars into something altogether more exciting. The process is aided by data gathered from Cyan Racing, Polestar’s motorsport partner.
Polestar’s sales chief Johan Lindqvist said, “This is an important milestone for Polestar and proof of the increasing demand from performance-oriented Volvo customers around the world. We are well on our way to our best year in terms of sales and we have further exciting products just around the corner.”
