Volvo’s efficient T5 turbocharged petrol engine has been added to the S90 saloon, V90 estate, V90 Cross Country, and XC90 SUV models.
The 250hp T5 engine is the newest of Volvo’s Drive-E range of power plants, a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder unit constructed using aluminium and aluminium alloy extensively for weight reduction. Its variable valve system reduces friction, while the single-scroll turbocharger uses exhaust gases to force more air through the induction system for increased responsiveness.
All models bar the entry-level Momentum and Momentum Pro versions of the S90 saloon will be available with the T5 engine, offering 42.8mpg and CO2 emissions from 154g/km. 0-62mph is achieved in 6.8 seconds, with a top speed of 140mph. The new S90 T5 is available from £41,120 on-the-road for the R-Design version. In V90 estate form, the T5 is also available in the Cross Country all-road. Efficiency figures are from 41.5mpg and 157g/km in the standard V90, and from 38.2mpg and 172g/km with all-wheel drive in the Cross Country. 0-62mph is possible in 7.0 seconds flat, 7.4 seconds in the V90 Cross Country. Prices start from £43,120 for the V90 R-Design and £44,685 for the V90 Cross Country.
The XC90 SUV is available with the T5 engine with all-wheel drive across all model grades, starting with the Momentum for £50,435 on-the-road. The XC90 T5 AWD achieves official combined cycle figures from 35.8mpg and 184g/km, with 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds.
