The new Volkswagen Beetle Dune will go on UK sale from next week, the manufacturer has announced.

Priced from £21,300 for the Coupe version and £24,255 for the Convertible, the rugged styling of the Volkswagen Beetle Dune pays homage to the modified ‘Baja Bugs’ synonymous with the beaches of west coast America, with a ride height 10mm up on the standard car.  Also featured are 18-inch alloys, front and rear wheel-arch extensions, and bold new bumpers.

The Beetle Dune comes in a choice of five colours, including Sandstorm Yellow metallic and Dark Bronze metallic hues developed exclusively for the model. Black wheel well and body extensions contrast with the eye-catching paint colours, while black side trim strips and ‘Dune’ badging set the model further apart from standard Beetle’s. At the rear, a large spoiler and new LED lights complete the look. Parts of the dash and door panels also share the exterior body colour, with the interior further distinguished by a large silver-framed central air inlet, black honeycomb grille, contrasting stitching on the sport seats, leather-trimmed steering wheel and parking brake grip, and black door trim panels, roof pillars and headlining.

Based on the existing Design trim level, the Beetle Dune boasts the Composition Media system with 6.5-inch touch-screen with Bluetooth telephone connection, DAB digital radio receiver, dash-mounted single CD player, Multi Device Interface via USB connection, SMS messaging functionality and eight speakers.  Other standard features include a Light and Sight pack comprising auto dimming rear-view mirror, automatic headlights, rain sensing wipers, and ultrasonic parking sensors front and rear.

Safety is enhanced via ABS Anti-lock Braking System and Electronic Stability Control as standard, while the Beetle Dune Cabriolet has rollover protection.  All Beetles have Isofix child seat preparation for two rear child seats, tyre pressure loss indicator and a comprehensive suite of airbags.

Powered by either the 1.2-litre petrol or 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine - with both 6-speed manual and 7-speed automatic gearbox options - the Beetle Dune from 0 to 62 mph in 11.3 seconds with the former power plant, and just 9.2 seconds with the latter. Top speeds vary from 110 mph for the petrol manual to 124 mph for the diesel manual. Fuel economy ranges from 51.4 mpg for the petrol manual to 62.8 mpg for the diesel manual, while CO2 emissions range from 117 g/km to 127 g/km depending on engine and gearbox choice.
