In a somewhat inevitable development in the diesel scandal, Volkswagen have come out and let us Brits know how many cars are affected on our soil.

Volkswagen has announced that they have sold almost 1.2 million cars fitted with the defeat device to UK customers. The 1.2m includes diesels from Audi, Seat, Skoda and of course Volkswagen.

Volkswagen are giving retailers vehicle identification numbers as well as coming up with a way for owners to check for themselves whether or not their car is affected. Following this, VW will begin contacting the owners themselves.

Ultimately the cars in question will have to go through some form of service, though this won’t technically be classed as a recall, as according to Volkswagen the cars are secure and in no way unsafe to drive, apart from the fact that they are pumping out poison.
