Concerns over a potential fire risk arising from improper repairs carried out have led to Vauxhall issuing a recall on the Zafira B model.
Owners were first contacted in December 2015, when Vauxhall wrote to all 234,938 Zafira B owners alerting them of a potential fire risk, but concerns over potentially improper repairs have seen the manufacturer today announce that customers will be invited to bring their Zafira’s back to their local Vauxhall dealership for remedial work.
Vauxhall says that the improper repairs may have been conducted without the owners knowledge, and could result in overheating over the blower motor system. Repairs to the resistor and its thermal fuse have been found to be the root cause, with Vauxhall saying the resistors should never have been repaired and instead should have been replaced.
This second recall, which will be conducted free of charge, has been announced following consultation with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency. Starting from August it will see customers return their Zafira’s to the dealership for a replacement blower motor resistor, while the owners of vehicles still going through the initial recall process are advised to bring their vehicles in on their current schedule to have them returned to their original condition.
