All Vauxhall Vivaro vans will carry the official Made in Britain emblem after Vauxhall Commercial Vehicles joined forces with the campaign.
The no-profit Made in Britain Campaign is now in its fifth year of helping identify and promote British-made products, and now Vauxhall Commercial Vehicles has joined a more than 700-strong list of members which includes names such as Unipart, Anglian Home Improvements, and the National Gallery.
The Luton-built Vivaro is the sole beacon of UK van making since Ford ended Transit production at Southampton three years ago. Over 60,000 Vivaro vans were produced at Luton last year, with the plant producing over eight million vehicles in its 111-year life. The all-new Vivaro sparked a £185 million investment and secured 1,500 jobs when Luton was chosen as its home in 2014. The ten-year deal to build the van in Luton has a trickledown benefit to the British manufacturing sector with 40% of the components sourced locally from UK firms. The model was designed by a team led by Luton native Malcolm Ward, who is the third generation of his family to work for Vauxhall.
Made in Britain Campaign CEO John Pearce welcomed the Vauxhall Vivaro by saying, “The campaign team are really excited to celebrate the success of Vivaro and see thousands more Made in Britain badges out there on Vauxhall’s vans. It is definitely going to accelerate our membership towards this year’s #1000makers target. We want all British manufacturers, big and small, to join our campaign and apply the trademark-protected Made in Britain logo on their goods, their packaging and online. The more people know about where products are made, the easier it is for them to choose to buy British.”
