Vauxhall staff switch from vans to ventilators | Industry - Car News Apr 2020

A team of specialist precision assembly workers from Vauxhall’s Luton plant are putting their skills to use while production is suspended by joining the effort to build ventilators for the NHS.

The 22-man team comprising of 20 assemblers, a team leader, and a supervisors, have been hand-picked for the task and seconded to precision medical equipment manufacturer Smiths Group until the end of July.

Vauxhall have supplied the workers to help Smiths Group increase production of their paraPAC Plus ventilator, a model which has been in NHS service for more than a decade.

Stephen Norman, Managing Director of Vauxhall Motors,said: “Our plant employees are used to working on lines where repeatable high quality is essential, and I’m confident that their skills will transfer exceptionally well to the production of much-needed ventilators for the NHS.”
