The Vauxhall Meriva MPV has been given a mid-life facelift and is now available with a new more efficient 1.6-litre diesel engine capable of returning 64.2mpg.
The cosmetic tweaks include a new grille, new headlamps and chrome accents around the front fog lamps. LED daytime-running lights are included alongside LED tail lights for the first time and new optional 18-inch alloys are also on offer.
The big news, however, is that the old 1.7-litre diesel engine has been dropped in favour of a new 1.6-litre CDTi unit. The engine meets the new Euro-6 emissions standards and develops 134bhp and 236lb-ft of torque. 0-60mph takes 9.1 seconds, more than a second quicker than the old 1.7.
There have also been improvements in emissions and economy with the new engine returning 64.2mpg and emitting 116g/km of CO2, a 10 per cent improvement over the 1.7-litre engine.
Vauxhall has yet to release any pricing information on the new Meriva; however, more information will be released when it goes on sale next month. The first customer deliveries are expected in January 2014.
