Vauxhall’s first-ever plug-in hybrid model, the new Grandland X Hybrid4, will be priced from £35,590 when it hits UK showrooms early in the New Year.

The new Grandland X Hybrid4 boasts an impressive fuel economy of up to 176.5mpg and CO2 emissions of just 36g/km, but with a Euro-6 compliant 1.6-litre petrol engine and twin electric motors producing up to 300bhp combined, the compact crossover SUV is still capable of going from 0-62mph in seven seconds flat.  The front electric motor is coupled to an electrified eight-speed automatic transmission, while the second motor and differential are integrated into the electrically-powered rear axle, providing all-wheel traction on demand.

The Grandland X Hybrid4 has four driving modes – electric, hybrid, AWD, and Sport – the first of which provides an all-electric range of 32 miles.  Hybrid mode automatically chooses the most efficient setting, for example using zero-emissions electric power in low speed city traffic, while regenerative braking boosts the electric range by up to a tenth.

Each model comes with a 3.3kW on-board charger, with an optional 6.6kW version and 7.4kW wallbox also available.  The wallbox can fully charge the 13.2kWh lithium-ion battery in just 2 hours.  Vauxhall’s Free2Move services, accessed via the Navi 5.0 IntelliLink infotainment system, helps Grandland X Hybrid4 drivers benefit from a network of more than 85,000 charging points across Europe.  Vauxhall Connect telematics includes Live Navigation, direct roadside assistance call, and app-accessed vehicle data information.

Four trim levels are available at launch, starting with the Business Edition Nav Premium, moving up through the SRi Nav and Elite Nav, and ending with the range-topping Ultimate Nav model which is available for £45,450 on-the-road.

Vauxhall have already committed to electrifying their entire vehicle range within the next five years.  The Grandland X Hybrid4 will join the recently released Corsa-e, and will be quickly followed by electric versions of the new Vivaro Life MPV, Vivaro LCV, and successor model to the current Mokka X.
