The Mazda MX-5 line up is being treated to a refresh this September, including improved performance, extra safety features, and cabin refinements.
Revised components mean the 2.0-litre SKYACTIV-G engine now produces 181bhp, up from 158bhp, and redlines at 7,500rpm compared to the previous 6,800rpm. This shaves almost a second off the 0-62mph acceleration time for the convertible, which is now 6.5econds, while RF models see their time reduced by up to half a second. Efficiency has been improved too, with lower CO2 emissions than the old 158bhp power plant.
On sale from the 1 September, the upgraded 2.0-litre engine will initially be offered exclusively in the new range-topping GT Sport Nav+ trim in both the RF and convertible, with SE-L Nav+ and Sport Nav+ to follow later in the Autumn.
Meanwhile, the 1.5-litre SKYACTIV-G engine has received a slight increase in power to 130bhp as a result of improved combustion and reduced internal friction. This will also be available from 1 September.
From 1 September, all MX-5 models will have telescopic steering adjustment and improved sliding seat operation. Standard safety equipment has increased with Sport Nav+ trim and above now featuring Front Smart City Brake Support, Lane Departure Warning System, Rear Smart City Brake Support, Traffic Sign Recognition and Driver Attention Alert. GT Sport Nav+ now adds Blind Spot Monitoring System with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Adaptive LED headlights and a reversing camera to its list of standard equipment.
Prices for the revised Mazda MX-5 range starts from £18,995 for the SE+ convertible.
