Some positive news for UK car manufacturing has come after it was confirmed 2016 exports have broken through the million mark.
A 12.2% growth has seen a total of 1,000,642 UK-built vehicles head overseas in the first three quarters of this year according to new figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), a new record for exports.
“British-built cars are in demand across the world as demonstrated by the double digit growth in exports this year, resulting in more than a million cars produced for international markets”, said SMMT Chief Executive Mike Hawes.
A 5% increase in export demand in September boosted production by 0.9%, offsetting a decline in domestic demand. September marked the 14th consecutive month that export production grew, and took UK vehicle production for the year-to-date to 1,292,453 units, up by 10.5% overall on the same period last year.
