Kia will join an exclusive club when they release a battery electric car for sale in Britain.
To date, only a handful of manufacturers have hit the UK market with such vehicles and Kia will use the government’s Plug-in Car Grant of £5000 to offer the Soul EV for £24,995. Kia have recognised the developing market in electric cars and the increasing level of demand for environmentally friendly travel; researching the possibilities over 30 years, they have now decided to release the Soul EV.
A single charge will take the Soul EV up to 132 miles thanks to advances in battery technology including nickel-rich terminals, greater energy density and regenerative braking which can recharge the batteries when the vehicle coasts or slows down.
The electric motor produces 81.4 kilowatts which is the equivalent of 109bhp in a traditional engine and can offer 285Nm of torque on pulling away. These qualities are built in to favour the urban stop-start style of driving which most of its purchasers will be accustomed to. A Virtual Engine Sound system has been incorporated for use at low speed in order to warn pedestrians of the car’s presence.
The Soul EV will be available to the UK market soon in either Caribbean Blue with a Clear White roof or Titanium Silver metallic.
