BMW have announced the release of the second generation models of the X5 M and X6 M which will replace the previous versions dating back to 2009.
The German giant manufacturer boasts of some grand improvements on the originals, mainly with regards to power which has increased by up to 10% and fuel efficiency which is bettered by 20%.
Both will be powered by BMW’s new 4.4 litre M TwinPower V8 engine with two TwinScroll turbochargers which is the most powerful engine ever provided by BMW for a four wheel drive. Power is transferred by a newly developed eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission now featuring Drivelogic.
The xDrive four-wheel-drive system distributes torque to each axle in a flexible manner, to ensure the maximum possible traction on all roads and in all environments. Normally the focus is towards the back wheels to give the X5 M and X6 M maximum agility, but when required 100 per cent of engine torque can be sent to either axle.
Attention has been paid to the interior finish in order to provide the luxury environment which fans of the M division have come to expect and admire. An M leather steering wheel with gearshift paddles and seats trimmed with fine-grain Merino leather will feature alongside aluminium interior strips in keeping with the feeling of exclusivity.
