In a boost for UK exports, the first examples of the new Swindon-built Honda Civic have begun their journey to the United States.
The Wiltshire factory is the global production hub for the tenth generation Honda Civic, including US spec models, having undergone a £200 million investment by the manufacturer. Since it was opened in 1989 as Honda’s flagship European production centre, more than £2.2 billion has been invested in the Swindon plant.
“Production of the hatchback for the UK market will commence towards the end of 2016, with sales beginning in the first quarter of 2017”, said Honda UK boss Philip Webb. “Our factory in Swindon will also export the model to other key markets around Europe and the rest of the world.”
