Subaru have announced a comprehensive update programme for the BRZ Sports Coupe for 2017.
Exterior, interior, powertrain, suspension and safety packages are all included in the update, starting with front end which now boasts a wider, lower stance at the front end that limits airflow into the bumper air intake, improving the handling and ride. The BRZ’s new look also includes full-LED headlights, new design rear lamps and aerodynamic rear spoiler, and new 10-spoke aluminium wheels.
Inside there is a 4.2-inch colour LCD multi-information display screen, including a G-force meter, steering angle gauge, brake force gauge, lap timer and torque/power curves. A redesigned leather steering wheel is now smaller for optimised grip, and has audio control switches, while Alcantara and leather seats top off a new interior.
The BRZ’s suspension, engine and drivetrain have been developed to further enhance its handling characteristics, while Subaru’s hallmark Boxer engine has had its cylinder blocks strengthened, valve stems buffed and polished, camshaft friction reduced, rocker arms lightened, resulting in a more responsive, fuel efficient power plant.
Redesigned dampers reduce body roll, increase cornering precision, and reduce vibration. New TRACK mode enhances the stability of the car and optimises accelerator inputs when driving on race circuits, while for the urban driver there is a new type of Hill Start Assist that helps with uphill starts or downhill reversing. A next-generation advanced airbag system, using upgraded sensors, sees safety improved too.
The updated BRZ will be available in SE Lux trim only, with a choice manual or automatic transmission, from Spring 2017.
