Subaru have added a hybrid electric powertrain option to their XV compact crossover model.
Priced from £30,995 on-the-road, the Subaru XV e-BOXER – so called because it combines a 2.0-litre, horizontally-opposed ‘Boxer’ petrol engine with an electric motor – is capable of pure-electric driving at speeds under 25mph, but with 220mm ground clearance and Symmetrical All Wheel Drive loses none of the off-road prowess offered by the conventionally-powered XV. Subaru have used the additional weight of the electric motor and lithium-ion battery wisely, strategically positioning them near the XV’s centre of gravity for optimal balance and handling. In e-BOXER form, the XV still has the grunt to tow up to 1270kg.
The XV boasts a 5-star Euro NCAP rating, and the XV e-BOXER comes as standard with twin stereo camera EyeSight driver assist technology, Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking, Pre-Collision Throttle Management, Lane Sway and Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Lead Vehicle Start Alert, Rear Vehicle Detection, Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Change Assist, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
The XV e-BOXER is identified by a new front grille design, new low-profile aerodynamic roof rails, new fog lamp bezel, and gloss black rear spoiler. Specification includes Keyless Entry and Push Button Start System, LED headlights with high beam assist, rear privacy glass, 18-inch alloy wheels, 8-inch multifunction colour touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, DAB radio, Bluetooth connectivity, dual zone air-conditioning, reversing camera, and heated seats.
The XV e-BOXER is on sale now at Subaru retailers.
