SsangYong are celebrating after news that the new Tivoli compact SUV has been nominated for the 2016 World Car of the Year award.

It is the first time a model from the Korean car maker has been in the running for the prestigious accolade, with the Tivoli now going head to head with the other 19 nominees to impress the judges before the eventual winner is announced in New York in March.

The petrol-powered SsangYong Tivoli was given its global sales launch in May, while the Tivoli diesel has joined the range at this week’s Frankfurt Motor Show.

SsangYong Motor UK Chief Executive Officer Paul Williams heralded the announced by saying: “This is a huge accolade for the Tivoli and SsangYong. Suffice to say, we are absolutely delighted!”
