Aston Martin have produced a new limited edition model to celebrate the anniversary of one their most famous racing victories.
The Aston Martin DBS 59 is a strictly limited run of 24 examples commissioned through the ‘Q by Aston Martin’ luxury personalisation service and based on the DBS Superleggera.
It is named in honour of Aston Martin’s historic 1-2 finish in the 1959 Le Mans 24 Hour race, where the pairings of Roy Salvadori and Carroll Shelby, and Maurice Trintignant and Paul Frere, stood on the top two steps of the podium after driving their DBR1s to victory.
A careful study of the Racing Green paintwork used on those DBR1s has been replicated on the new DBS 59, juxtaposed with a carbon fibre gloss-finished roof panel. Bronze details are featured in numerous places on the car, while its racing spirit is invoked by an individually numbered roundel on the front wing and bespoke tyre wall arrow decal.
The weave of the seat material used on the DBR1 has also been incorporated in the DBS 59’s interior, which also includes bronze detailing on features such as the shift paddles. There’s Obsidian Black and Chestnut Tan upholstery, and embroidered references to the Le Mans circuit and details of Aston Martin’s 1959 race victory on the rear speaker cover and sun visor. Serious racing fans can even choose from a range of accessories including a replica period racing helmet, race suits, and race gloves.
As with the DBS Superleggera, power comes from 5.2-litre V12 engine capable of 211mph.
All sales enquiries for the ultra-exclusive DBS 59 are being handled by Aston Martin Cambridge.
