Production of the Skoda Superb has reached a milestone after the 750,000th example rolled off the assembly line this week.

The brand’s flagship model, over three-quarter-of-a-million Skoda Superbs have been made since the model was first introduced in 2001, and the magic figure has been reached just in time to celebrate the launch of the third generated, which enters the European market in June this year. The first generation was produced between 2001 and 2008 when the second generation model was launched, with an estate version joining the range the following year.

The upcoming third generation Superb will be based on the MQB platform developed by Skoda’s parent company Volkswagen, boasting the latest safety assistance systems and Euro 6 compliant engines. To see production eventually grow to around 280,000 vehicles per year Skoda has invested heavily in the production plant at Kvasiny in the Czech Republic, with new technology and an increased workforce, while production of the Superb is due to commence in China during the course of this year.

Professor Dr Winfried Vahland, Chief Excutive Officer of Skoda, hailed the Superb’s success by saying, “This figure is proof of our flagship’s great success. It is based on this success that we are entering a new era with the third generation of the model. The new Skoda Superb surpasses everything that Skoda has ever produced, and points to the future of the brand.”
