An ultra-efficient mild hybrid engine has been added to the Skoda Octavia line-up.
The new 1.0 TSI e-TEC engine combines a 108bhp three-cylinder petrol engine with a 48-volt lithium ion battery and a belt-driven starter-generator. Equipped with a seven-speed DSG gearbox as standard, the new powertrain is available on Skoda Octavia SE and SE Technology models, with prices starting from £23,005 on-the-road for the SE hatchback.
The 48-volt system allows the Octavia to coast with the engine completely switched off for extended periods, with the electric motor maintaining power to essential systems like the car’s power steering, while the mild hybrid system recovers energy during braking. The engine has been developed for improved responsiveness and lower CO2 emissions, with the latter falling to 115 g/km.
The new e-TEC model, which is available to order at Skoda retailers, will be joined at a later date by an iV plug-in hybrid variant.
