Picture the scene: You're driving along the motorway, minding your own business, when a gigantic meteor streaks across the sky. It sounds like the climactic scene from Armageddon, or Deep Impact, or any of the other countless terrible natural disaster movies from the late '90s.

However, the footage you see below is not CGI frippery, but actual footage of a meteor flaring across the sky in Chelyabinsk, Russia. The meteor crashed into the Ural mountains after injuring more than 500 people by blowing out windows and rocking buildings.

The video was shot on a dashcam. As you're probably aware, most Russians have these fitted to provide evidence of responsibility in traffic accidents. In fact, the footage they capture has become something of an internet phenomenon.

Weirdly, the occupants of the car seem largely unmoved by the huge lump of intergalactic rock burning up in front of their windscreen. Given the same circumstances, we're fairly sure we'd empty our bowels over the upholstery. Or at least pull onto the hard shoulder.
