The expansion of Renault’s performance model range will include GT 220 versions of the Megane Hatch, Coupe and Sport Tourer.
The GT 220 is based on the Megane GT Line TomTom but comes with up to twice as much horsepower; Renault say that they have also boosted its driving credentials with the addition of stiffer suspension and dampers. Enlarged front brake discs will sit inside 18 inch ‘Serdard’ alloy wheels and 225/40R18 Dunlop Sport Maxx TT tyres.
Under the bonnet lives a 2.0 litre 16 valve turbocharged engine which is capable of producing 220bhp at 4,750rpm and transfers power to the front wheels via a six speed manual transmission. The GT 220 will accelerate from 0-62mph in 7.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 149mph. In spite of its high output, Renault say that Stop and Start technology will help the GT 220 to maintain good efficiency at 38.7mpg on the combined test cycle and CO2 emissions of 169g/km.
As with every Renault, the new models will come with the 4+ warranty and assistance package which protects customers over the first four years or 100,000 miles. Prices will begin as follows: Hatch £23,245, Coupé £24,230, Sport Tourer £24,245.
