The all-new UK-built Honda Civic Type R, which enters full production this summer, has already set a new record.
During final testing the new Type R has lapped the infamous Nürburgring Nordschleife in 7 minutes 43.8 seconds, a record time for a front wheel drive car.
Powered by a 316bhp 2.0-litre VTEC Turbo petrol engine with a six-speed manual transmission, the new Civic Type R was almost seven seconds quicker than its predecessor when it took to the track earlier this month. The new model is 16kg lighter than the outgoing Civic Type R, and boasts a comprehensive aerodynamic package, high-rigidity body frame, and a new multi-link rear suspension.
The new Civic Type R will be built at Honda’s Swindon plant in Wiltshire, the global manufacturing hub for the tenth-generation Civic hatchback. The new Civic Type R will be exported to markets across the world including, for the first time, the United States.
